Guardians of Tradition Award for Tiago Pereira and his portrait of traditional Portuguese cuisine
The International Guardians of Tradition Award goes this year to the project 'A cocinha portuguesa a gostar dela própria', a series of documentaries by director and documentary filmmaker Tiago Pereira, which has highlighted the work of many traditional cooks in Portugal and become a kind of activism in an attempt to create a new social paradigm based on sharing and listening. The documentaries celebrate Portugal's rich and diverse gastronomy, highlighting its cultural and social importance. Through interviews with chefs, producers and gastronomy specialists, the series offers an in-depth look at the country's culinary traditions and their evolution in the modern context.
Silva will be joined by Portugal's best-known chef, Noélia Jerónimo (rest. Noélia e Jerónimo, Cabanas de Tavira, Portugal), considered by many to be the chef of Portuguese chefs. A fighter, tireless and in search of the authentic flavours of Portuguese gastronomy, she is one of the defenders and promoters of Portuguese women in the kitchen, insisting on the importance of family support and the compatibility of work schedules. She is also the presenter of the TV programme Master Chef Portugal and a teacher at the Gastronomy Academy.
