Canned food El Viejo Pescador (Tapia de Casariego, Asturias)
A teacher by profession, at the age of 33 she decided to take an important step in her life when she decided to leave everything she had worked for in a school to start a new project from scratch. Together with her husband, she took on this new challenge, with a one-year-old daughter in her care and no knowledge of the sector, starting from scratch to learn how to make canned food and then how to sell it, changing the way it was managed and creating new products and production methods to compete in the market.
Seven years later, the story of El Viejo Pescador is the story of Ángela Donato, who, with a lot of effort and hard work, has managed to produce the best octopus in the world, according to the Great Taste Awards held in London, with her vacuum-packed Cantabrian octopus, cooked at low temperature in its own juice, and who currently buys 80% of the octopus caught in the Cantabrian Sea. Always innovating, they were also the first to put an orange in a tin of mussels, creating their successful mussels in picofino vermouth sauce.
