This lady from Segovia arrived in the world of wine almost by chance, but it aroused such a passion in her that she is now one of Spain's most renowned sommeliers.
Although she studied Graphic Art, Silvia realised that sitting in front of a computer all day long was not for her. She worked a few casual hours at Madrid's Hotel Villa Magna as she studied, and when she finished the course she decided to wait for a while to see what she was going to do, and continued to work in the catering sector to earn a living.
The dynamic nature of the job and her relations with people eventually drew her in, and she left the Villa Magna for the Urban, which had an extraordinary wine list, and this was where her vocation as a sommelier emerged. She studied in Madrid and Marbella, and worked at some of the capital's most emblematic restaurants before taking the plunge and joining Mugaritz.
She was declared Best Sommelier by Metrópoli magazine in 2012, and nominated for the 2016 National Gastronomy Prize. She is now Head Sommelier at Hotel Mandarin Oriental Ritz in Madrid.
